Pubcast 266 – Mark’s U.S. Tour

We have a full pub for this show, including 3 co-hosts and a brewer!

Ex-cohost, BJCP judge and brewing consultant, Mark Naski has returned to Illinois after a trip via Kentucky and Florida, and brings us some interesting offerings from breweries he has visited. Joining him is the Yankee, Lingo, and Chuck Fort, brewer at Church Street, plus VIP guest Ken McMullen, head brewer at Hopvine Brewing in Aurora.

It’s a fun time with many excellent brews, one of which is a li’l bugger to get opened! And of course as Mark is here, you’ll learn about the styles and other fun brewing facts.

Pubcast 200 – Bicentennial Show

It is our 200th pubcast, and we are celebrating in the Brit and Yankee studios with many of our friends from over the years.  Our guests include tavern owners, beer servers, beer historians, brewers, and beer experts…oh, and beer consumers!
Joining Mark Naski and Phil Clark are Chuck Fort (Church Street), Ken McMullen (Hopvine Brewing), John Bittermann, Jon Harlson, John Karwoski, and live by Skype, the original Yankee, Mike Lingafelter.  Plus we have a couple of congratulatory messages from Sketchbook, Cademon, and Miskatonic breweries.

The Landlord has selected 8 beers that are examples of the range of brews from Illinois suburban breweries (with the exception of one from downtown), and we have a marathon tasting session. Opinions vary, and what we do find out is that there is a style for everyone.
Thanks to all who have listened over the years, we hope that we have educated, informed and entertained.  Here’s to the next 200 shows!  Cheers!

NOTE: this is a bumper edition, which we preface with our PSA, so listen carefully and don’t exceed your intake…spread it over a couple days!

Pubcast 199-1 In Absentia – Instant Brew Reviews

It’s vacation time for the staff of the Brit and Yankee, so we are filling in with a couple of short shows containing Instant Brew Reviews.  Mark and Phil come across a variety of brews on their travels, and we’d like to share them with you, and give you our opinions and comments on them.  If you come across them as well, drop us a line at pints@thebritandyankee.com and we’d like to hear your thoughts as well.  Cheers!

Pubcast 197 – Lena and Generations Brewing

Phil and the lovely Kimberlee recently headed out to north-west Illinois to visit the Galena Territory area. On the way they stopped by Lena Brewing and got an interview with brewers Tim and Andy, tasted some  samples and brought a selection of bombers back for show tastings.

With John Karwoski’s help, Mark and I try their 38° Hefe — 5.8% ABV 13 IBU, one of their most popular summer brews. This is followed by Póg Mo Thóin, Amber Ale – 4.5% ABV, 20 IBU.  We will have reviews of some of their other offerings in another show.

We then head to Generations Brewing, in Freeport IL, and bring back a couple of howlers of their special offerings.  Ken McMullen from Hopvine Brewing is on-hand to help us taste these and we start with Cherry Czar, a Russian Imperial Stout with cherry puree, 10.4% ABV, 58 IBU.
Last up is Tawny Ale, an oak-aged Irish strong ale, 6.9%, 22 IBU.
